Marketers leveraging AR technology will potentially deliver better contextual information, enabling greater customer engagement.

FREMONT, CA – The digitalization is revolutionizing the advertisement landscape. Billboard ads are becoming a thing of the past. Radio, which was once a preferred platform for marketing products, is evolving into podcasts. The millennial generation has its attention glued to a plethora of digital devices, and hence, marketing organizations have to come up with something more engaging than conventional poster ads and vapid video promotions.

The emerging technologies have revolutionized the capabilities of digital media, enhancing them with robust search engines, mobile applications, cognitive computing, immersive reality features, and so on. This transformation has spurred the evolution of advertising.

In the last decade, social media has emerged as one of the most popular platforms, with over 1 billion monthly active users. It has turned phone users into media consumers and producers, leading to the transmission of billions and billions of gigabytes of data.

The programmatic advertising utilized today is expected to cross $ 58 billion by the end of the year 2019. The rising media consumption on social media and content sharing platforms has urged marketers to capitalize on the trend. Several organizations are eying the revolutionary augmented reality (AR) technology to attract the millennial population.

The delivery of contextual information to potential customers is the primary purpose of advertising. Adverts fail to be engaging without the relevant contextual information. However, organizations find it challenging to cram all the main features of their product in the advert and still make it engaging.

AR can ease the cognitive overload faced by digital users. It will enable advertisers to provide contextual information in easily digestible formats. Humans are visual beings and can process visual information thousands of times faster than text. Hence, visual data ensures better engagement when compared to textual data.

The visual and textual nature of AR content will ensure enhanced customer engagement as well as brand recall. The success of AR in gaming has spurred its proliferation into other fields, including construction, healthcare, and advertising as well. The recent predictions show that the AR ad revenues will potentially reach $2 billion by the year 2022. AR technology will not only establish immersive media experience and innovative brand image but also ensure repeated customer engagement.
