4 Use Cases of Cloud Storage an Organization Should Consider

CIOAdvisor Apac | Thursday, December 19, 2019
Tweet

More and more organizations hare migrating to the cloud; however, they must know the type of cloud storages available in the market.

Fremont, CA: Organizations make decisions after considering their processes and operations. A cloud storage provider suitable for a large organization might not be feasible for a small firm. Choosing a cloud storage provider depends on the types of files, the way to access the data, and the dissemination of the information. To make the right decision, the organization needs to understand the purpose of their cloud storage and if it meets their needs. Here are the types of cloud storages that an organization must consider.

  1. For Files

One of the basic features of cloud storage is file syncing and sharing. Employees need a single spot to sync and share their documents, videos, PDFs, and more as they have started to work remotely. Cloud storage provides flexibility and accessibility, whether employees are traveling or working from home. Moreover, the trend of working in a remote location requires a single source of truth to ensure that the employees are working off the same version of a file.

  1. For Objective
  2. Traditional file storage enables information to set up by giving it a data name and then placing it in a folder. Adding more details to the database and moving it from folder to subfolder to sub-sub folder to sub-sub-subfolder to document puts a lot of strain on the system. If organizations use Object storage, which acts like expanding file folders where all the data and metadata is placed in a single location, they can benefit from the single expanding file folder that has everything a team needs. Organizations analyzing big data or looking to optimize their resources must opt for cloud storage for objects, not just files.
  3. For Backup

An organization relying on cloud-based file sync and share storage solution can be detrimental as it only protects the files linked to the cloud storage solution and leaving other devices and data wholly unprotected. A superior business backup gives an organization the ability to create mirror images of applications, operating systems, applications, settings, and individual files as well. Cloud storage for backup can reliably restore the company’s IT infrastructure quickly and easily. The organizations must combine cloud storage with backup and restoration functionalities to safeguard themselves from financial and reputational losses.

  1. For Archives

Archival cloud storage is essential for businesses that are trying to retain data for a long time to meet compliance requirements. The organizations must consider their ability to meet compliance standards involving security certification and encryption of data while looking at cloud storage for archives. Archival cloud storage is essential for companies that maintain files in big sizes such as digital media assets and tape libraries.
