7 Technologies that Drive Positive Changes in the Logistics Industry

CIOAdvisor Apac | Wednesday, July 22, 2020
Tweet

Ever since the implementation of various advanced technologies, the logistics industry has seen more efficient delivery in terms of time and cost and overall customer satisfaction.

Fremont, CA: Logistics plays a vital role in creating and prolonging long-term bonds between multiple companies and their clients worldwide. But most often than not, hindrances like late deliveries, scarce trucks, spoiled shipments, and such jeopardize a company’s bottom line or its relationship with its customers.

However, with advancements in technologies, suppliers can choose from a variety of cutting-edge technologies like machine learning, the Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain to tackle the issues effectively.

Here are seven from technologies which are essential to high performing logistics:

Wearable Technology

Wearable technology is expected to become a compulsory feature in the logistics industry soon.

Robotics

Robots are designed to perform several tasks at once efficiently, and this makes its value and potential in the logistics industry limitless. In the ecommerce processes, speed and efficiency are high in demand; thus, robots play a vital role in satisfying the rapid sales demand of customers online.

Internet of Things (IoT)

IoT has brought a lot of changes when it comes to service delivery. There are currently five billion objects already connected to IoT. This technology positively affects the logistics industry in numerous ways, such as integrating it with humidity/temperature sensors to examine supply-chain quality control. It can also be used to detect when a package has been changed or damaged.

Automation

By integrating data-driven software, automation improves the overall operational performance, offering the logistics industry solutions like improving package labeling and reorganizing warehouse sorting systems.

Self-driving Vehicles

Several logistics companies adopt self-driving vehicles because of their controllable testing grounds and low regulations.

The conversion of free spaces such as shipping yards and storerooms to testing environments has made several logistics companies employ self-driving automobiles such as small, driverless plant-trucks, autonomous forklifts, etc.

Cloud Computing

Cloud computing applications offer flexibility and productivity for the logistics industry, making it a potential powerhouse. It helps digitize shipping operations, make them available online, minimize transaction costs, and expand its operations.

Drones

Drones’ prominent contribution to the industry is the ability to enable express customer delivery quickly. Drones can quickly deliver items no matter the location, from overcrowded urban cities to fly to the most rural area; it offers the logistics industry many potentials for promising applications.
