Construction Era Welcomes the High-Tech Drone Builders

FREMONT, CA: Drones have evolved as a viable commercial tool with applications in numerous industries, most notably, construction. It is not surprising, as their benefits range from on-site safety to a level of project monitoring, which was previously unimaginable. Key players in the sector are recognizing the potential and seeing significant promise for real return on investment.  There are numerous research activities on unmanned aerial vehicles for construction explored.

Building information modeling is creating and managing information on a construction project across its lifecycle. It generates a sharable digital description of every aspect of the structure which stakeholders can update. Drones contribute to this methodology in various ways. Creating maps of construction sites are daunting, expensive, and labor intensive. Now, the drone can access any area of the site with relative ease, while capturing all the information and footage in real time to computer mapping software.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are replacing traditional land-surveillance methods. Constructions sites need regular inspection, but it can be a dangerous job. Today drones can carry out real-time checks of high-risk areas, and engineers do not have to assign workers for the task. This helps enhance health and safety on a site, the top priority of any construction site. The images taken can be relayed back to the advanced modular ground control system, enabling safety managers to inspect a site remotely. Drones lessen the labor and time involved in creating an accurate survey and eliminate the human error involved in the process and capture necessary data in much less time than traditional methods would take.

Drone technology has grown to a point where instant connectivity and communication on job sites are an absolute necessity.  Drones are used, as a means of maintaining contact at worksites and provides video footage to facilitate communication. Its ability to manage workflow all day long is unprecedented and is sure to have a significant impact on construction processes.  Since drones are generally small with high levels of maneuverability and are being used more as an alternative to traditional vehicles, they do not have to adhere to traffic laws, which allows them to make deliveries in a shorter period.

Drone usage in the construction sector has seen massive growth in recent years, and the trend is expected to continue. With this, tech-powered drones are all set to form the future of the construction industry.
