IoT devices generate of troves of data, which an enterprise uses to gain insights into their business processes and applications. Organizations need flexibility and scalability in their infrastructure to store and process the data generated through IoT devices.
Cloud services can be a potent option for organizations to store IoT data with great efficiency. Cloud service providers offer flexibility and scalability according to the requirements of an enterprise. Cloud services are mainly divided into three parts which are public, private and hybrid clouds. Most of the IoT projects start with public clouds as it offers massive bandwidth, computing services, and storage demands. However, public clouds do not stand out in terms of success and ease of use. Organizations face a lot of challenges while shifting to cloud services for the IoT deployments. Here are a few of the biggest IoT challenges that companies face in cloud services:
Network: Network scalability is one of the biggest challenges for IoT deployment. Companies need to transfer the IoT data to the local area network, which is then sent onto the internet. Once the data is sent over the internet, it can be stored on the cloud storage instance. IoT devices send real-time data through sensors installed in equipment. Companies need to provide adequate bandwidth to accommodate the flow of data by upgrading the local network and internet connection.
Storage:cloud computing costs rise with an increase in capacity and traffic. IoT data requires little storage retention, as all the data cannot be used for computing purposes. Businesses need to adopt efficient data retention settings to minimize the capacity requirements and associated costs of IoT data.
Security: IoT technology is still in embryonic stages, and a lot of vulnerabilities are traced in the IoT devices. Companies need to emphasize on handling security challenges by improving in the areas like IoT configuration management, authentication and authorization, and encryption for an efficient and hassle-free IoT deployment.
